Best pack I've ever owned!
I'll start this by saying that I'm an external frame guy. I know it's been popular over the last 10 years to go with internal frames, but 95% of the backpacking I do is on established trails and I've yet to ever try an internal that worked as well as an extrnal on established trails. I'm also often in hot climates, so the separation between the pack and my back is much better than an internal.
Now for the carson, the pack itself is designed like an internal, but still designed to seperate the load, so heavy items can be up higher. I've packed for 2 week trips with pelenty of space and have used it up to 120lbs with no issues. I also like the front and top loading ability and the side pockets have ample space. There are a few smaller pockets that work great for quick grab items like first aid kit, rain gear, maps, etc. I've done about 800 miles of hiking in my Carson and about 2000 in a previous Jansport and can confidently say that they are the best pack, especially when you consider the price.
If you are going to be on established trails, regardless of the steepness (I hike the Grand Canyon a lot and the adjustable hip belt makes a huge difference) then this pack will not dissapoint you. If you'll be doing a lot of scrambles and crawling of boulders, then look internal, but otherwise save a lot of money and get a pack that will last for years, you will not be dissapointed.
