Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 Cap

The cap arrived safely. I was glad that it fit my water bottle, Sigg caps do not. Unfortunately it whistles when I drink from it and occasionally leaks.

I bought this cap to replace the sports cap I previously bought for my Kleen Kanteen. The original sports cap squeaked loudly every time I used it, and everyone around me could hear it. It was even noticeable in the gym. This one also squeaks, but not nearly as badly as the original. It works very well--doesn't leak and is easy to use to drink.
Although I recommend this cap over the original, please note that the Gaiam sports bottles & caps work just as well and make no noise when you drink from them.

I bought a Klean Kanteen with the sports cap after reading the product description which implies that the cap does not leak. First thing I did was to fill up the bottle and lay it on its side to check. Sure enough it leaks - there is a steady drip from the air intake hole that is covered with a plastic diaphragm. What is more, the information sheet that came with the bottle states explicitly that the sports cap will leak, and even shows a picture of liquid dripping from the cap. So how do they get away with claiming on the Amazon site that it does not leak? It was a blatant deception.

Now, if you plan to always keep the bottle upright then the sports cap is fine. In other words, you can use it at the gym. However, don't buy it if you want to carry it in your bag on a plane, as I had intended.

The sport cap is nice that you don't have to unscrew the top to drink but it makes a weird whistling sound when you drink from the air escaping the relief valve.

For safety reasons and in cooperation with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Klean Kanteen is recalling the Sport Cap 2.0. Klean Kanteen® has received six consumer reports relating to the spout tip of Sport Cap 2.0 breaking or cracking after being dropped, which could pose a possible choking or ingestion hazard. There have been no incidents of actual choking or ingestion reported.

We at Klean Kanteen apologize both for the inconvenience and the resource footprint of this recall. We take the health and environmental aspects of our products very seriously and the mere possibility of our product harming someone gave everyone at Klean Kanteen pause. The decision to recall and replace caps was really the easy part, running a smooth replacement program is the challenge we are now rising to. We really appreciate your patience and understanding; we'll get you your new Sport Cap(s) as quickly as possible.
