Rugged, water proof, bright, versatile
I've dropped my Maglite onto hard floors, submerged it in water, and subjected it to the abuses of a tornadic four year old. The all metal (not plastic!) case is nearly indestructible. Both ends are threaded and are fitted with snug o-rings to protect the innards from rain, humidity, and submersion. The lens housing twists to adjust the focus of the beam and comes off to allow it to be used as a candle (handy for nights in a tent or during a power outage). In addition, an extra bulb resides in the base! 2008-09-09

Mini Maglite
Bought as a Christmas gift for my nephew so I can't attest to the
performance, but I don't expect any problems. Good looking product.
I think he'll really like the holster.

Incandescent lamp EATS batteries
Yes, this is a good flashlight. The adjustable beam feature is great; but the incandescent lamp truly eats batteries. A LED lamp conversion kit is available for around $10. I recently had the opportunity to play around with the LED model and it far surpasses the older version. 2007-12-08

Best Little Flashlight in the World
I have several of these Mini MagLites. They're solid, well-made, great little flashlights, with extra features: beam focusing (just twist the head), spare bulb holder (inside the rear cap), and a candle mode (take the head off and it becomes a base for the barrel).
I've only had one fail, and that was my fault (I didn't check the batteries in one that was kept in a drawer and an expired battery leaked).
Why do I own several of these? Well, you've got to have one in each color, right? Seriously...
I keep one in the center console of my car. It's great for old eyes looking at a map or directions at night, when the dome light just isn't quite enough. It's also a help for a quick look under the hood, in the trunk, or under the seat. Of course, I keep a regular Mag-Lite in the trunk, too.
I keep one in my office desk in case of a power outage, or when the timed lights go off in the evening, or for digging around in the computer or copier.
I keep one by my home computer for those times when you have to go poking around inside.
I keep one in the headboard of my bed, again in case of a power outage. I learned my lesson in the 1994 Northridge earthquake; it was still dark and the power was out, and various and sundry things had fallen on the floor -- it's no fun walking around in the dark with bare feet when there's lots of stuff scattered about.
There are a couple of others (kitchen and garage), just to have around.
Just remember to check the batteries every few months, and when the bulb burns out and you use the spare in the rear cap, replace it before you forget (Mag Instrument LM2A001 Replacement Lamp for AA Mini MagLite, 2-Pack)!

flashlight
this is an excellent flashlight. it has good battery life and is extremely durable too. it is a perfect size for everyday use. but if you buy this flashlight you should buy the led upgrade. it isn"t as bright as the original bulb but it is almost as bright. this is a really durable flashlight as i said before. it has even survived being thrown up into the air and even being run over by a bike! so this flashlight is worth the money. 2007-05-26
