Slumberjack Big XL Cot

I was really looking forward to my new cot for camping. The size was perfect. 2 things though were not so perfect. One, the end braces were too hard for me to attach, I needed help (it was difficult for him too). And two, when it was all set up we found that it wobbled back and forth (head to toe). I sent it back the next day, and recieved a refund quickly from Amazon. I bought the Outfitter XL Cot for a few dollars more, from Cabela's (also a Slumberjack product) and I am very happy with it. Good quality products other than the wobble.

This is one impressive cot! It seems very sturdy and is extremely comfortable. It collapses into a relatively small space and comes with a heavy canvas carrying bag. It is, however, quite heavy. My 9 year old son had difficulty lifting it. But, I'm 6'4" and quite happy with it.

I particularly like the pouch underneath for wallets, flashlights, car keys, etc. Things that often get lost in a tent.

It takes real strength to get the last bar attached during setup, but anyone big enough to want this cot should be plenty strong enough that this will not be a problem.

I bought this cot to take to Burning Man. Once I got to the desert, it appeared as though it would be easy to assemble, although I did take the previous reviews into consideration. How hard can it be?

This cot is VERY, VERY hard to put together. Although there are no 'loose parts' to puzzle together, the fabric alone is nearly impossible to stretch into place so that you can attach the braces on the ends. I'm a strong, very fit, female - 5'9" - and I was dripping sweat when all was said and done. I nearly lost a finger when I was pulling the brace with all my might to place it and it popped out and smooshed my finger into the frame. When I say I "barely got the cot together", Im not exaggerating. There is no way my friend could have put this together without me.

I was actually shocked how difficult they made it to brace - although after about 45 minutes, I was able to put both cots together. Once assembled, the cots were very comfortable and HUGE. About the size of a twin size bed. It made living and sleeping in the desert for nine days much more comfortable.

I HOPE that now the fabric has stretched a bit, the next assembly will go smoother - but buyer beware, unless you are very fit, and strong - don't plan on being able to get this cot constructed by yourself.

I bought this for use at home when company comes to visit, not for camping. I bought the XL because I thought, "Why be cramped in bed at home?"

Wow! This sucker is huge! As wide as a twin bed, and even longer.

Yes, its heavy: not for backpacking unless you're taking a mule, but would work for car camping.

Yes, its big: won't work in an RV, nor in most small footprint tents. This needs to be in one of those huge 10 person tents, or in your living room after you move the coffee table.

Yes, it takes a bit of pull to connect the end rods: The Slumberjack cots and one's of similar design get their rigidity from a brace at each end, which also stretches the canvas. Connecting the rod on one end is pretty easy, assuming you have it right-side-up in the sleeve. The other end though.. you fight a lot of tension in two directions, but I found after getting one end of the brace popped on, it just takes a knee on the x-brace and pushing down on the rail, and you can pop the end brace right on.

Yes, it sleeps well: especially with a blanket or sleeping pad under you. Heavier people will sag more than on a narrower cot, simply because there's more fabric to stretch. But it will support you safely and comfortably.

After several nights of having large family members sleeping on it and putting it away each morning, I popped one of the feet off while trying to unfold it. The "hold-on" screw had pulled through the rubber, apparently it had snagged itself. But I pushed the foot back on, and it has remained, even after skootching it around on the carpet.

But boy, is it big!

This cot is exactly as described...extra large. I'm 6'3" and weigh about 280 lbs. and its very comfortable for me. Good for use as a temporary extra bed at home and I have taken it car-camping. It is big and it is heavy, but that's ok as long as you expect it. I read that some people have a hard time with set-up. I can understand the comment but I didn't have much trouble. The cot does support you with tension so it makes sense that you have to stretch the fabric a bit to lock in the end rails. All in all I'm very satisfied with the product and look forward to using it for a long time.
